Baby Carrier
Frequently Asked Questions
What age is the Tiny Table Baby Carrier suitable for?
The carrier is designed for use from the newborn stage through to toddlerhood, with a weight range of approximately 3.2 kg to 20 kg.
For smaller newborns, the most important consideration is fit rather than age alone. Your baby’s face must remain fully visible, their chin must stay clear of their chest, and their head should sit high enough for you to easily kiss.
For many babies, a secure fit is achieved from approximately 4.1 kg, depending on their height and body proportions.
Can I use the carrier with a newborn?
Yes. The carrier can be used with a newborn when your baby meets the minimum weight requirement and can be positioned safely.
For newborn carrying:
-
Narrow the seat using the adjustable Velcro panel.
-
Wear the waistband high on your body.
-
Position your baby close enough to kiss.
-
Keep your baby facing inward.
-
Make sure your baby’s face is fully visible.
-
Keep their chin lifted away from their chest.
-
Use the neck-support panel as needed.
Always check your baby’s breathing and positioning regularly.
How do I know if my newborn is sitting high enough?
Your baby should sit high on your chest, close enough for you to gently kiss the top of their head without stretching.
Their face should remain fully visible, and the middle of their ear should sit around the top edge of the carrier panel or above it.
If your baby is sitting too low, raise the waistband higher before tightening the shoulder straps.
What carrying positions can I use?
The carrier supports the following positions:
-
Front carry, baby facing inward
-
Front carry, baby facing outward
-
Back carry, baby facing inward
Newborns and younger babies should always face inward.
Outward-facing and back carrying should only be used once your baby has developed the appropriate head, neck and body control.
When can my baby face outward?
Your baby may face outward once they have strong and consistent head and neck control.
For most babies, this is usually around five to six months, although every baby develops differently.
Outward-facing carries should be kept short, and your baby should be turned inward if they appear tired, overstimulated or uncomfortable.
Do not allow your baby to sleep while facing outward.
When can I use the back-carry position?
Back carrying should only be introduced once your baby can sit independently and has strong head, neck and trunk control.
We recommend becoming fully confident with front carrying before attempting a back carry.
Use a mirror or another adult to help when practising for the first time.
Is the carrier hip-healthy?
The adjustable seat is designed to support a wide seated position when fitted correctly.
Your baby’s knees should sit higher than their bottom, creating a supported “M” position. The fabric should support their thighs from one knee to the other without forcing their legs too wide.
Correct adjustment is important, as the required seat width changes as your baby grows.
How do I adjust the seat width?
The seat width can be changed using the Velcro adjustment inside the waistband.
Use a narrower setting for smaller babies and gradually widen the seat as your baby grows.
The carrier should support your baby from knee to knee without pushing past the natural bend behind their knees.
How tight should the carrier feel?
The carrier should feel secure and supportive without feeling painful.
Your baby should stay close to your body when you lean forward slightly, although you should always support them with one hand when checking.
If your baby is sagging away from you, the straps are likely too loose. If you feel excessive pressure or pinching, loosen the straps slightly and reposition the waistband.
How should the waistband be positioned?
For newborns and smaller babies, wear the waistband high around your waist or lower rib area.
As your baby grows, the waistband can gradually sit lower.
The waistband should remain level and firm, rather than tilting forward or sliding down.
How do I use the neck-support panel?
The neck-support panel has three positions.
Folded down:
Use this once your baby has developed strong head control and needs greater visibility and freedom of movement.
Partially raised:
Use this for additional support while still allowing your baby to look around.
Fully raised:
Use this for added privacy, shade and light protection from wind. Always make sure your baby’s face remains uncovered and fully visible.
The panel should support your baby without pressing their head forward.
Can my baby sleep in the carrier?
Yes, babies often sleep while being carried inward-facing.
Continue checking that:
-
Their face is visible.
-
Their nose and mouth are uncovered.
-
Their chin is not pressed into their chest.
-
Their head is supported.
-
Their body remains upright.
-
They are not overheating.
Babies should not sleep while facing outward.
What is the TICKS safety checklist?
TICKS is a simple babywearing safety guide:
Tight: The carrier should hold your baby securely against you.
In view at all times: You should always be able to see your baby’s face.
Close enough to kiss: Your baby should sit high on your chest.
Keep chin off chest: There should be space beneath your baby’s chin to keep their airway open.
Supported back: Your baby’s back should be supported in a natural upright position.
Can I breastfeed while using the carrier?
Some caregivers choose to breastfeed while babywearing, but the carrier must be repositioned carefully.
Your baby should never remain in a lowered feeding position after feeding. Once finished, return them to a secure, upright position with their face visible and their airway clear.
Keep one hand supporting your baby while adjusting the carrier.
Is the carrier suitable for plus-size?
The carrier is designed with adjustable straps and a waistband that can accommodate a wide range of caregiver sizes.
The waistband adjusts to approximately 140 cm.
Fit may vary depending on body shape, clothing and preferred carrying position.
Why does the carrier feel uncomfortable?
Discomfort is often caused by the fit rather than the carrier itself.
Common causes include:
-
The waistband sitting too low
-
Loose shoulder straps
-
Uneven strap tension
-
The chest clip sitting too high or too low
-
The seat being too wide or narrow
-
Your baby sitting too far away from your body
-
The straps sitting too close to your neck
Small adjustments can make a significant difference.
Can you help me adjust the carrier?
Yes. Our team can help you troubleshoot the fit.
Send us clear photos showing:
-
The front of the carrier
-
Both sides
-
The back straps
-
Your baby’s leg position
-
The waistband position
Is the carrier easy to put on by yourself?
Yes. Once the straps have been adjusted to your body, the carrier can be put on without another person.
We recommend practising over a bed or soft surface and using a mirror until you feel confident.
For back carrying, another adult should assist while you are learning.
Is the carrier suitable for hot weather?
The breathable fabric and open side design make the carrier suitable for everyday use in warmer conditions.
However, both you and your baby will naturally feel warmer when sharing body heat.
During hot weather:
-
Dress your baby lightly.
-
Avoid the hottest part of the day.
-
Take regular breaks.
-
Keep your baby hydrated when age appropriate.
-
Check their chest or back for signs of overheating.
-
Keep the carrier away from direct sunlight where possible.
How do I wash the carrier?
Follow the washing instructions shown on the care label.
As a general guide:
-
Fasten all buckles before washing.
-
Place the carrier inside a laundry bag or pillowcase.
-
Use a gentle cold wash.
-
Use mild detergent.
-
Avoid bleach and fabric softener.
-
Air dry in the shade.
-
Do not tumble dry unless the care label specifically allows it.
Spot cleaning can help reduce the need for frequent full washes.
Can I wear the carrier in the car?
No. The carrier must not be used as a substitute for an approved child car restraint.
Remove your baby from the carrier and secure them in an appropriate car seat before travelling.
Can I use the carrier on an aeroplane?
The carrier can be useful while moving through the airport and during boarding.
How long can my baby stay in the carrier?
There is no single time limit that applies to every baby.
Take regular breaks and monitor your baby’s:
-
Breathing
-
Temperature
-
Leg position
-
Comfort
-
Alertness
-
Feeding needs
Young babies may need more frequent repositioning and checks.
What should my baby wear in the carrier?
Dress your baby according to the weather and remember that the carrier and your body both provide additional warmth.
Avoid thick, padded or bulky clothing that may affect positioning.
In cooler weather, add layers over the outside of the carrier rather than placing bulky layers between you and your baby.
Can I use the carrier with twins?
The carrier is designed to carry one baby at a time.
Do not place two babies inside the carrier.
What should I check before every use?
Before placing your baby in the carrier, check:
-
All buckles close securely
-
Straps are not twisted
-
Stitching is intact
-
Fabric is not torn
-
The waistband is secure
-
The seat is adjusted correctly
-
Your baby’s airway remains clear
-
Your baby is positioned according to the TICKS guidelines
Stop using the carrier if you notice damage or if any component is not functioning correctly.
Is the carrier intended for children to use?
